ABOUT THE SAHARA ROSE PROJECT
Learn about Sahara Rose Project's mission, our achievements, and how we are working to create a world where every girl is protected, educated, and empowered. Join us in our fight against Female Genital Mutilation and support the human rights of women and girls.

Our Mission
At Sahara Rose Project, our mission is to create a world where no girl has to fear Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). We envision a world where girls are protected, educated, and empowered to make choices about their own bodies and futures, and where their human rights are preserved.

Our Motivation
The Sahara Rose Project was born out of a deep connection to our founder, Nurah Abokar's, Somali heritage and the harsh reality that Somalia has the highest rate of FGM in the world, affecting about 99% of women and girls. Understanding the deeply ingrained nature of this practice, Nurah felt compelled to challenge the silence surrounding FGM by promoting education, youth leadership, and legislative advocacy to protect girls internationally.

Our Achievements
The Sahara Rose Project was recognized as an international winner of the Global Citizens Innovation United Nations SDGs Challenge, hosted by the United Nations in the United Arab Emirates. Our organization was selected for its innovative approach to addressing Sustainable Development Goal #5: Gender Equality, with a focus on eradicating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through youth advocacy and education, fundraising, and legislative reform.
"As a man, joining the Sahara Rose Project has allowed me to actively contribute to protecting girls from FGM, making a tangible difference in their lives."
